Juletræet - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW) is an embroidery kit with a warm and narrative Christmas motif. At the centre of the picture stands a large dark green Christmas tree filled with lit candles, golden decorations and small red details. In front of the tree, five children stand hand in hand looking at the Christmas tree.

The motif captures one of the most recognisable moments of Christmas: when the family gathers around the decorated tree. The clear colours, small figures and decorative border give the wall hanging both a cosy and graphic expression.

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The finished wall hanging measures 16 x 20 cm.

At the bottom of the motif, five children stand side by side holding hands. They are seen from behind, naturally leading the eye towards the Christmas tree.

The children’s clothes are embroidered in different colours. Red, blue, pink, yellow and bright pink create a lively row in front of the tree’s dark green branches. The different colours make the figures easy to distinguish and give the motif a cheerful Christmas character.

The simple depiction of the children tells a great deal with only a few details. They stand close together, and their arrangement creates a clear sense of togetherness. It is this small scene in particular that gives the motif its special warmth.

The Christmas tree fills most of the picture area and forms the natural centre of the motif. The broad green branches create a clear triangular shape that draws the eye upwards towards the golden star at the top.

A series of lit candles sit among the branches. Their light flames are surrounded by golden details and stand out clearly against the dark green background.

Between the candles hang small golden wreaths or ring-shaped ornaments. They are repeated in several places across the tree and create rhythm in the decorations. Small red details add extra colour and connect the Christmas tree with the children’s clothing.

At the top, the tree is finished with a large golden star. It creates a clear focal point and gives the motif a classic Christmas finish.

A broad dark green border runs around the main motif. It is filled with small light flowers and golden details that form a dense and decorative pattern.

The border gives the wall hanging the character of a small textile picture. At the same time, it creates a clear separation between the Christmas motif and the edge.

At the outer edge is another narrow border of golden cross stitches. It repeats the colour of the Christmas tree’s candles and star and brings the composition together.

The contrast between the dense green frame and the light linen background makes the Christmas tree and the children stand out clearly.

The finished wall hanging measures 16 x 20 cm. The format makes it suitable for smaller wall spaces, a hallway, a Christmas corner or as part of a collection of other embroidered Christmas motifs.

Christmas Tree is not only about Christmas decorations. The motif also tells the story of the tradition of gathering around the tree. The children holding hands make togetherness an important part of the picture.

This makes the wall hanging ideal as a Christmas decoration that can be brought out again every year. The motif combines classic Christmas elements with a small narrative that makes it distinctive.

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread. The matte surface of the thread gives the green, red, blue, pink and golden shades a soft and harmonious expression.

The fabric is Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The classic linen structure suits the many small details in the candles, figures, ornaments and border.

In Christmas Tree, Ida Winckler has created a motif where Christmas decorations and human storytelling come together. Haandarbejdets Fremme’s materials support the classic expression and make the embroidery a Christmas decoration that can be enjoyed for many years.
