Aalborg - wall piece - Ida Winckler (IW) depicts two of Aalborg\u2019s most distinctive historical buildings in an atmospheric cross-stitch embroidery. The motif shows both J\u00f8rgen Olufsen\u2019s House and Hamborgg\u00e5rden, which are built directly together and still stand in Aalborg today.<\/p>\n
The embroidery brings together architecture, local history and craftsmanship in a motif with a clear sense of place. At the bottom, the composition is finished with a green border bearing the text Aalborg, emphasising the connection to the city.<\/p>\n
The stone house on the right is the brick-built Renaissance building that alderman and mayor J\u00f8rgen Olufsen had built in 1616. The beautiful gabled house served as a merchant\u2019s house. The half-timbered house on the left is Hamborgg\u00e5rden. It is slightly older and dates from around 1600. J\u00f8rgen Olufsen\u2019s newer stone house was later added directly to the existing half-timbered wing.<\/p>\n
Together, the buildings form one of Denmark\u2019s best-preserved Renaissance complexes. They are located on \u00d8ster\u00e5gade in Aalborg and are an important part of the city\u2019s historic centre.<\/p>\n
