Æbler - cushion - Ingrid Plum (IP)
"Æbler" (Apples) - cushion - Ingrid Plum (IP) is an embroidery kit with a lush motif of an apple tree. The tree spreads its many branches across almost the entire front of the cushion. Green apples in different sizes and positions hang among the branches.
The motif is worked in muted natural colours. The dark trunk and fine branches create a clear structure, while the green apples add colour and bring the tree to life.
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The finished cushion measures 39 x 34 cm.
An apple tree filled with fruit
The motif centres on a single apple tree that fills the cushion from bottom to top. The trunk grows up through the middle and divides into many smaller branches.
The branches spread out to both sides. They cross and divide, giving the tree a lively and natural expression. The shape is not strictly symmetrical, which gives the motif a fine sense of a real tree growing in the garden.
Green apples hang throughout the branches. Some appear individually, while others sit closer together in small groups. The many fruits create an even rhythm across the entire motif.
The green shades vary from lighter yellow-green tones to more muted olive greens. This creates variation between the apples and adds depth to the otherwise calm colour palette.
Fine branches and calm natural colours
The trunk is embroidered in dark brown and grey-brown shades. From it grows a dense network of slender branches across the light background.
A few light leaves and green details appear between the apples. They break up the branch structure and give the tree a fuller appearance.
The light linen background remains visible between the branches. This keeps the motif from feeling heavy, even though the tree fills a large part of the cushion.
The colours are muted and natural. This makes the cushion easy to combine with wood, linen, wool and other materials in natural shades.
A cushion inspired by the garden
The finished cushion measures 39 x 34 cm. The format suits the tree’s broad crown and gives the motif plenty of space to unfold.
Apples - cushion works well on a sofa, armchair or in a conservatory. The motif has a clear connection to the garden and the fruit trees of late summer.
The cushion can also suit a holiday home or an open-plan kitchen and dining area, where botanical and country-inspired motifs can take centre stage. The green colour palette gives it a calm expression throughout the year.
The motif is decorative without being strongly graphic. It is the branching structure of the tree and the many small apples that create the overall design.
Danish Flower Thread on linen 10B
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread. The matte character of the thread complements the motif’s soft natural colours. The green and brown shades gain a warm and textile expression.
The fabric is Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The classic linen structure suits both the tree’s fine branches and the small apples well.
The project offers a good balance of larger shapes and small details. The trunk creates the basic structure of the motif, after which the branches and apples gradually grow around it.
Ingrid Plum and Haandarbejdets Fremme
With Apples, Ingrid Plum has created a motif where a single fruit tree is allowed to fill the entire picture surface. The many branches and apples give the cushion character, while the limited colour palette creates calm.
Haandarbejdets Fremme is known for embroidery kits with fine materials and motifs inspired by nature, everyday life and classic needlework.
