Birketræ – wall piece – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

"Birch Tree" is a classic wall piece in which Gerda Bengtsson depicts the Nordic birch with botanical precision and a sense of lightness. The motif shows a solitary deciduous tree with its characteristic pale trunk and fine, hanging branches. Small, fresh leaves are spaced lightly, giving the tree an airy, gently moving expression.

The composition is simple and well balanced. The tree stands centrally within the field and is allowed to occupy the space without feeling heavy. The drooping branches create a soft rhythm that draws the eye downward and gathers the motif into a natural whole. At the base, a narrow strip of ground with stylised flowers anchors the tree and provides scale.

The colour palette is calm and naturalistic. The trunk is rendered in light grey tones with subtle variation, while the leaves appear in muted greens. Small flowers add discreet accents of yellow, blue, and red. Danish Flower Thread lends the motif a matte, lively surface that highlights the fine stitching and nuanced colours.

Linen 10B provides a lightly textured, natural ground that supports the motif’s Nordic character. The fabric’s pale tone leaves space around the tree and enhances the sense of air and tranquillity in the composition.

Birch Tree works beautifully as a stand-alone wall piece and fits naturally within ranges focused on botanical and nature-inspired motifs. For retailers, the design is a strong example of Gerda Bengtsson’s ability to unite botanical insight with a timeless, decorative idiom that maintains its relevance over time.
