Blomster og grene – doily / napkin – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)
"Blomster og grene" (Flowers and Branches) - doily / napkin - Gerda Bengtsson (GB) is an elegant cross-stitch embroidery with a detailed geometric pattern worked in fine blue shades. The motif combines flower shapes, branches and ornamental lines in a harmonious and balanced composition.
The embroidery is characterised by a strict symmetrical design, where small variations in the pattern add life and movement. The many fine cross stitches create a decorative network of lines and shapes that brings to mind classic pattern traditions and historic textiles.
The centre of the motif is gathered around a circular shape with a distinct star figure, which forms the focal point of the embroidery. Around it, the geometric elements spread out in a dense and richly detailed pattern. In the play of colour between the light and darker blue shades, the contours of a larger flower can also be sensed, appearing subtly within the motif and adding extra depth to the composition.
The dark blue details highlight selected areas and create contrast with the lighter blue tones. This gives the embroidery a calm and balanced expression, where the details gradually emerge the longer you look at the motif.
The embroidery is worked with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 12B. The matte texture of the thread suits the graphic pattern beautifully, while the linen gives the cross stitches precision and clarity. The combination of materials supports the motif’s classic and Nordic expression.
The doily / napkin adds a refined and decorative element to the table setting. The blue pattern feels both calm and detailed and pairs beautifully with porcelain, glass and textiles in light or natural colours. The napkin can be used on its own or combined with other embroidered textiles by Gerda Bengtsson.
Gerda Bengtsson is known for her embroideries with a strong sense of balance, rhythm and colour composition. Her designs range from botanical motifs to more ornamental and geometric compositions, which continue to be popular among stitchers today.
