Blomster - wall piece - Gerda Bengtsson (GB)
A herbarium can hold memories of forest floors, mountain landscapes, meadows and flowering roadsides. In this embroidery kit, the botanical collection is transformed into a large and beautiful wall piece, where each plant is given its own little space. Flowers - wall piece - Gerda Bengtsson (GB) is an embroidery design with classic botanical precision, lightness and great decorative value. The motif is built up like a chart of small plants and flowers, where forms, colours and Latin names are all part of the expression.
A botanical collection with 20 small plant motifs
The motif consists of 20 different flowers and plants, arranged in five rows with four motifs in each. Each plant is embroidered as a small independent botanical study with roots, stems, leaves, flowers and berries. Beneath each motif is the Latin name of the plant, giving the wall piece the character of a classic botanical chart.
Among the plants are Fragaria vesca, Polygala vulgare, Medicago lupulina, Anemone hepatica, Viola biflora, Viola odorata, Veronica fruticans, Alchemilla alpina, Vaccinium myrtillus, Rubus arcticus, Rubus chamaemorus, Campanula uniflora, Anemone nemorosa, Gentiana nivalis and Papaver radicatum. The names add a scholarly and almost collector-like calm to the motif, which suits Gerda Bengtsson’s design language beautifully.
The colours are kept in natural green shades with fine touches of blue, yellow, pink, purple, red and white. The small flowers create variation, while the green leaves tie the whole motif together. Some plants are tall and upright. Others sit lower to the ground with small roots and fine leaf forms. This gives the embroidery a lively rhythm, even though the structure is very calm and easy to read.
A large wall piece with calm and rich detail
The finished wall piece measures 55 x 74 cm. It is therefore a large embroidery design with a clear presence on the wall. The format gives plenty of air around each plant, so every motif can be seen clearly. At the same time, the fixed arrangement creates a beautiful whole, where the eye can wander from plant to plant.
This embroidery kit is embroidered with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The combination is particularly well suited to botanical motifs, because the thread gives the colours a soft and natural expression. The many green shades gain depth, and the small floral details stand out beautifully on the light linen background.
As a finished wall piece, the motif is well suited for framing. It can hang in a living room, entrance hall, reading corner or creative space. The expression is classic, but not heavy. It has the same calm quality as a botanical illustration, but with the special texture and handmade character of embroidery.
