Blackberry – jam jar cover – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)
This jam jar cover features a delicate embroidery of a blackberry branch. The motif is both decorative and evocative, making it a fitting detail for jars of homemade jam, cordial or preserved berries.
At the centre of the embroidery a branch carries several clusters of blackberries. Some of the berries appear dark and ripe in deep violet tones, while others remain red and not yet fully mature. This variation gives the motif life and creates a natural appearance, resembling a branch freshly picked from a late-summer blackberry hedge.
Along the branch several green leaves spread outward around the berries. The leaves are embroidered in different shades of green, adding depth and variation to the motif. The contrast between the dark berries, the red unripe fruit and the fresh green leaves creates a lively and harmonious expression.
The motif is positioned centrally on the jam jar cover so that the embroidery becomes visible on the top of the jar. When the cover is tied around the jar with a ribbon, the linen falls softly around the edge and creates a classic and homely appearance.
The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The fine stitches highlight both the rounded shapes of the berries and the leaves along the branch, giving the motif a clear and defined structure. The jam jar cover thus becomes both a practical and decorative detail that makes homemade jars even more inviting.
