Grøftekant – wall piece – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

This wall piece depicts a lush roadside verge with a rich selection of wild plants. The motif is arranged as a low horizontal row of flowers and foliage, forming a lively nature scene.

The plants vary in height and shape. Some rise tall with slender stems, while others spread low along the ground. These different growth forms create a natural rhythm across the composition.

Among the plants appear both small and larger flowers in several colours. Yellow, red, blue and pink tones break the green and bring life to the design. Each plant has its own character and is rendered with fine detail.

The leaves form a dense base along the lower part of the motif. Darker green tones anchor the composition, while lighter stems and blossoms guide the eye upward.

The individual plants stand close together without overlapping too much. This allows each plant to remain visible while maintaining the impression of a continuous verge.

The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The many small stitches create structure and highlight the forms of the plants. The result is a classic embroidery with a detailed and naturalistic motif.
