Gul okseøje - placemat - Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

There is something fine about a plant that is allowed to stand with flower, bud, leaves and root. Yellow Oxeye (G) - placemat - Gerda Bengtsson (GB) is an embroidery kit where Gerda Bengtsson presents the plant as a small botanical portrait. The motif is placed on the left side of the placemat, while the rest of the light linen surface is left open and calm. This gives the placemat an elegant expression, where the embroidery decorates without taking over the whole table setting.

A botanical motif with yellow oxeye

The motif shows a yellow oxeye with tall, slender stems and several flower stages. At the top is an open yellow flower with fine petals and a warm, full centre. Further down is a smaller yellow flower, bending gently out from the plant. In addition, there are several buds that have not yet opened. They give the motif a lively sense of growth and development.

The leaves are embroidered in green and olive-green shades. They have a slightly serrated and wild form, which suits the natural expression of the plant well. Some leaves sit close to the stems, while others stretch out to the sides. At the bottom, the fine roots are visible in pale brown and beige tones. The small root threads make the motif especially botanical and show the plant as a whole, not only as a flower.

The yellow colour of the flowers stands beautifully against the light linen background. At the same time, the green stems and leaves create a soft connection down towards the roots. The result is an embroidery design with lightness, precision and a quiet tribute to the wild plants of the garden.

A placemat with air and fine balance

The finished placemat measures 42 x 30 cm. The format gives plenty of space for both the embroidery and the open surface. The motif is not placed in the centre of the whole placemat, but stands as a decorative plant field at the side. This makes the placemat practical for the table, because the motif can be seen clearly while there is still calm around plate, glass and cutlery.

A narrow green border runs along the edge. It frames the placemat beautifully and gives the whole design a finished expression. The border is simple, but it has great importance for the balance of the design. It connects the light linen surface with the green shades of the plant and emphasises the classic botanical expression.

The placemat is beautifully suited to a simple table setting, a summer table, a garden table or a classic everyday table with a natural touch. It can also be combined with other botanical placemats, if you want a table with different plants and a cohesive Haandarbejdets Fremme expression.

Haandarbejdets Fremme and Gerda Bengtsson’s eye for plants

This embroidery kit is embroidered with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 12B. The fine linen gives a light and elegant background, where the small details in flower, bud, leaves and roots stand out clearly. Danish Flower Thread gives the colours a soft and natural expression, which is especially well suited to Gerda Bengtsson’s botanical motifs.

Haandarbejdets Fremme is known for embroidery kits where materials, colours and design tradition form a complete whole. Here, a simple plant becomes a useful and beautiful table textile. Gerda Bengtsson had a special ability to give even modest plants dignity and character. In this motif, the yellow oxeye is allowed to stand upright and fine, with its whole botanical form visible, from the roots at the bottom to the yellow flowers at the top.

It is an embroidery kit for those who love nature motifs, placemats with a classic expression and embroidery where even the smallest plant details matter.
