Gyldne fugle - cushion - Edith Hansen (EH)
"Gyldne fugle" (Golden Birds) - cushion - Edith Hansen (EH) is an embroidery kit with a warm and richly patterned bird motif. The cushion is filled with 25 birds arranged among dark green branches and small leaves.
The colours range from yellow, golden and ochre to muted green and olive green. The birds share the same simple basic shape, but their patterns vary. This gives the cushion a calm overall expression with plenty of detail.
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 7B. The finished cushion measures 42 x 34 cm.
A whole flock with 25 different expressions
The birds are arranged in five rows across the cushion. They follow a structured pattern, yet no two appear exactly the same.
Some birds feature diagonal lines. Others are filled with dots, small checks, stripes or open ornaments. Several combine two or three shades within the same figure.
This creates variation from one section to the next. At first, you notice the flock as a whole. Then the individual patterns gradually become more apparent.
The colours also vary between the birds. Some are warm and golden. Others are more subdued in pale green or olive tones. A few have distinct ochre details.
Dark branches connect the birds
A network of dark green branches and leaves grows between the birds. The branches continue across the different sections and connect the entire cushion motif.
The dark lines create a clear contrast to the lighter colours of the birds. At the same time, the leaves create a natural rhythm between the many figures.
The motif is divided by vertical green lines. They give the cushion structure and emphasise the five rows of birds. The regular layout creates order within the otherwise varied pattern.
The light linen background remains visible between the birds and branches. This gives the motif space and keeps the overall expression light.
Golden and green shades for the home
The colour palette makes the cushion easy to combine with natural materials and calm textiles. Golden and ochre tones add warmth, while the green shades bring a sense of calm.
The cushion can be used on a sofa, armchair or in the bedroom. It also works well in a holiday home or a room with wood, linen and other natural materials.
The botanical network surrounding the birds gives the motif a connection to nature. At the same time, the birds’ simple shapes and repeated arrangement give the design a clear graphic character.
Embroidered on linen 7B
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread. The matte character of the thread suits the muted yellow and green shades well.
The fabric is Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 7B. It gives the motif a clear textile structure and suits the larger format of the cushion well.
The finished cushion measures 42 x 34 cm. The rectangular format provides plenty of space for the entire flock of birds and the many different patterns.
The project offers a fine balance between repetition and variation. You can work through the motif one bird at a time, with each new figure bringing its own small pattern.
Edith Hansen’s play with form and pattern
In "Gyldne fugle" (Golden Birds), Edith Hansen has used a simple bird shape as the starting point. The interest lies in the variations.
Colours and patterns change while the shape is repeated. This makes the motif feel both cohesive and lively.
Haandarbejdets Fremme is known for embroidery kits with fine materials and motifs with a strong textile expression. Golden Birds - cushion - Edith Hansen (EH) is an embroidery kit for those who love birds, patterns and warm natural colours.
