Haandarbejdets Fremme (HF) – Calendar 2026
Cross Stitch of the Year 2026 – Floral embroidery in a new interpretation
Haandarbejdets Fremme – Calendar 2026 presents Cross Stitch of the Year 2026 with 12 atmospheric floral motifs – one for each month. This year’s theme draws on the long tradition of floral embroidery and reinterprets it with a contemporary, playful, and personal expression.
The calendar is designed by Tine Wessel, who, with great respect for craftsmanship, invites embroiderers to both immersion and free experimentation. The motifs range from surface-covering patterns to individual flowers that can be stitched separately or combined freely. The result can be anything from a lush, colourful floral display to a more restrained and minimalist look – depending on colour choices and composition.
A creative year with cross stitch
The motifs are originally designed for embroidery on Natural White linen (12 threads/cm) using Danish Flower Thread from Haandarbejdets Fremmebut the calendar actively encourages experimentation. Add colours, repeat motifs, or reduce the palette to create your own personal expression. The calendar therefore functions not only as a yearly calendar, but also as an inspiration book that can be used again and again.
A personal greeting from the designer
In the foreword, Tine Wessel shares her reflections on floral embroidery – an area that has been both cherished and criticised over time. She describes her fascination with the feminine, calm, and timeless qualities of floral shapes and colours, and encourages embroiderers to play freely with the motifs. The calendar is intended as an open tool rather than a fixed answer.
Part of a strong tradition
Since 1960, Haandarbejdets Fremme has published Cross Stitch of the Year as a central part of its promotion of Danish embroidery art. The calendar is well known and appreciated both in Denmark and internationally, and stands as a clear example of Danish design, quality, and craftsmanship. The 2026 calendar continues this legacy with a modern perspective and deep respect for tradition.
