Humle – doily / napkin - Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

"Humle " (Hop Vine) - doily / napkin - Gerda Bengtsson (GB) is an elegant cross stitch embroidery inspired by the delicate vines and characteristic green hop cones of the hop plant. The motif is arranged as a circular wreath, where leaves, tendrils and hanging hops create a harmonious and lively overall expression.

The embroidery has a natural rhythm and movement. The many slender vines twist around the wreath, giving the motif a light and airy appearance. The hop cones hang among the leaves in varying shades of green, creating variation and depth within the embroidery.

The colour palette is calm and botanical. The dark and light green tones give the motif a classic appearance clearly inspired by the lush plants of late summer. At the same time, the delicate tendrils and small leaves add a decorative lightness that suits table settings and textiles beautifully.

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen fabric 12B. The matte thread creates soft transitions between the green shades, while the linen fabric supports the fine structure and detail of the cross stitches.

The motif works especially well as a doily / napkin, where the circular wreath creates an elegant centre around glasses, small plates or serving arrangements. The embroidery can be used both for everyday table settings and for more atmospheric occasions inspired by nature.

Gerda Bengtsson is known for her botanical embroidery designs, where plants and flowers are depicted with great understanding of form, colour and movement. Her designs combine simplicity and precision and have made her one of the most recognised designers at Haandarbejdets Fremme.
