"Juletog" (Christmas Train) – Advent calendar – Verner Hancke (VH) is a narrative embroidery in which a festive Christmas train travels through a winter landscape. The motif is structured as a traditional Advent calendar, with the numbers from 1 to 24 distributed across the entire scene.
At the front, a black steam locomotive pulls a series of colourful carriages. The wagons are loaded with Christmas trees, parcels and busy elves. Along the route, children, animals and small everyday scenes add life and movement. A snowman and geese in the snow complete the winter atmosphere.
The composition is horizontal and rich in detail. The colour palette ranges from deep reds and dark greens to cooler greys and blues. Danish Flower Thread gives the embroidery a dense and vibrant surface. Linen 10B from Haandarbejdets Fremme highlights the structure of the stitches and the fine contours.
The design is rooted in Haandarbejdets Fremme’s tradition of figurative and narrative embroidery. The elongated format makes the calendar suitable as a wall hanging during December. It functions both as a daily countdown and as an atmospheric embroidery with a high level of detail.
