Kardebolle - wall piece - Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

Some plants have a quiet strength that only reveals itself when you look closely. The teasel is exactly such a plant. It stands upright, tall and almost architectural with its long leaves, slender stems and characteristic flower heads. Teasel - wall piece - Gerda Bengtsson (GB) is a large embroidery kit with a botanical motif, where the height, structure and distinctive form of the plant are allowed to fill the entire surface.

An upright plant with leaves, stems and flower heads

The motif shows a tall teasel growing up from the bottom of the long wall piece. At the bottom, the green leaves spread out in a calm, symmetrical form. The leaves are elongated, pointed and vary in both size and direction. Some leaves are dark green, while others are lighter and more golden green. The fine colour shifts give the plant depth and make the motif feel alive without disturbing the calm whole.

Up through the motif, the slender main stem continues. Further up, it divides into several thin stems carrying the plant’s flower heads and buds. This gives the wall piece an elegant vertical movement. The eye follows the plant from bottom to top, from the broad leaves at the root to the small, thorny flower heads at the top.

The flower heads are embroidered in green, dark and purple shades. They stand as small, striking forms at the ends of the stems, surrounded by fine pointed bracts. The purple details give the motif a discreet lift of colour and highlight the teasel’s distinctive, slightly wild character.

A very large wall piece on warm 7U linen

The finished wall piece measures 73 x 195 cm. It is therefore a large and striking piece of embroidery, with a clear presence in the room. The long format is particularly well suited to the motif, because the teasel is allowed to grow naturally up through the entire surface. There is plenty of air around the plant, and the warm natural-coloured linen background gives the motif a calm and earthy expression.

This embroidery kit is embroidered with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 7U. The coarse and warm linen background is an important part of the whole. It gives the embroidery a natural weight and highlights the green leaves, the slender stems and the dark purple flower heads.

Danish Flower Thread gives the colours a soft and botanical expression. The green shades become lively, yet still subdued. The brown and dark details create structure, while the purple stitches add character to the motif. As a finished piece of embroidery, the wall piece is beautifully suited for hanging in a room where you want a large nature motif with calm and the immersion of needlework.

Haandarbejdets Fremme and Gerda Bengtsson’s botanical precision

Haandarbejdets Fremme is known for embroidery kits where materials, colours and motifs are carefully balanced. In this kit, linen 7U, Danish Flower Thread and a botanical design come together to show how embroidery can depict the distinctive character of a plant with both simplicity and depth.

Gerda Bengtsson has a special ability to let plants stand as they are. In this motif, the teasel is not made more decorative or softer than nature itself. It is allowed to be tall, upright, pointed and elegant. This gives the wall piece a strong and calm presence. This embroidery kit is therefore ideal for those who love large botanical motifs, classic Danish embroidery and plants with a clear form.
