Krydderurter – wall piece – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)
Herbs is a classic wall hanging designed by Gerda Bengtsson. It is one of the most iconic botanical designs from Haandarbejdets Fremme and is characterised by great precision and a calm, balanced expression.
The motif consists of twelve herbs, each embroidered in its own panel. The plants are shown with clearly defined roots, stems, leaves and flowers. Beneath each motif, the plant’s name is embroidered, giving the piece the character of a traditional botanical plate.
Among the motifs are thyme, watercress, hyssop, St John’s wort, rosemary and sage. In addition, caraway, curly mint, dill, heartsease and peppermint are included. Together they form a cohesive whole with both variation and visual harmony.
The colour palette is muted and true to nature. Green tones dominate, complemented by subtle flower colours. Each panel is framed by a dotted border, which adds structure and contributes to the harmonious overall impression.
The finished embroidery measures 42 × 79 cm. Its format makes it well suited for hanging in a kitchen or dining area, and it also works beautifully in interiors with a focus on craftsmanship and nature.
The piece is embroidered with Danish Flower Thread on linen from Haandarbejdets Fremme. The materials ensure a beautiful and durable result. The project is primarily aimed at experienced embroiderers who enjoy larger works with botanical detail.
