Passionflower – cushion – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

This cushion is decorated with a rich pattern of passionflowers. The motif consists of large blossoms surrounded by leaves, tendrils and smaller details from the plant.

The flowers have broad petals in light purple tones. At the centre appears the characteristic dark core that gives the flower its distinctive appearance. The many petals spread outward in a star-like shape.

Between the flowers winding stems and tendrils grow across the design. Their curved lines connect the elements and give the pattern movement. The darker leaves create contrast against the lighter blossoms.

The plants repeat across the entire surface of the cushion, forming a dense and decorative pattern. At the same time, the variation in leaves and flowers brings life to the design.

Green, purple and darker tones create a balanced colour harmony. The colours emphasise the natural forms of the plant and highlight the blossoms.

The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The many small stitches give the motif structure and clearly define the shapes. The finished embroidery becomes a decorative cushion with a classic botanical expression.
