Ranunkel – wall piece – Lisbeth Roum-Møller (LRM)
This wall piece presents a botanical depiction of buttercup. The motif is arranged as a plant portrait showing the flower, leaves and root.
The tall flowering stem rises vertically through the design. Along the stem several blue blossoms appear in different stages. Some flowers hang gently downward, while others are just beginning to open.
The blossoms are embroidered in clear blue shades. Subtle variations in colour give depth and emphasise the shape of the petals. In the centre small lighter details add refinement to the flowers.
Around the stem the characteristic deeply divided leaves spread outward in several directions. The leaves help balance the composition and are embroidered in fresh green tones that give the plant a natural expression.
Beside the plant a depiction of the root appears. The delicate root structure spreads into the soil and reveals the underground part of the plant. Together with a small detail of the flower, it gives the motif a botanical character reminiscent of classical plant studies.
The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The many small stitches allow the flowers, leaves and roots to be rendered with precision. The result is a classic embroidery inspired by botanical illustrations.
