Retro Flowers – cushion – Marlene Thorndahl (MTH)

This Retro Flowers cushion is a bold and decorative design in which Marlene Thorndahl works deliberately with form, repetition and colour balance. The motif consists of three stylised flowers placed side by side. Each flower is constructed from concentric circles and simple, symmetrical leaves that together create a calm, graphic expression.

The composition is clear and well defined. The three flowers appear as individual elements, yet are unified through their consistent construction and balanced proportions. The horizontal arrangement gives the cushion a steady rhythm and makes the motif particularly well suited to an elongated format. The expression is inspired by the textile design language of the mid-20th century, while remaining contemporary and versatile.

The colour palette is carefully balanced. Shades of turquoise, green and golden ochre create depth and variation, while the neutral background allows the motifs to stand out clearly. The colours are distinct without being sharp, contributing to a warm and inviting overall impression. The interplay between cool and warm tones gives the cushion life and character.

Danish Flower Thread lends the motif a matte, vibrant surface, where the colours appear rich and natural. The embroidery on 10N linen provides a clearly defined stitch structure and a firm, stable base that is particularly well suited to cushions. The choice of materials supports both durability and an exclusive, craftsmanship-driven finish.

In the home, Retro Flowers functions as a decorative statement, adding colour and personality to a sofa, bench or armchair. Within a collection, the cushion represents a modern design with a clear reference to classic, graphic embroidery. For retailers, it is a strong product with broad appeal, where form, colour and materials come together in a cohesive and commercially attractive whole.
