Rød fluesvamp - wall piece - Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

A woodland motif with red fly agaric mushrooms

"Rød fluesvamp" (Red Fly Agaric) - wall piece - Gerda Bengtsson (GB) is a classic cross stitch embroidery with a decorative mushroom motif. The design features several red fly agaric mushrooms with white spots, pale stems, green leaves and slender blades of grass. It is an embroidery clearly connected to the forest floor, autumn and the small details of nature.

The composition is vertical and fills the surface in a calm and balanced way. At the top stands a tall fly agaric with a broad red cap and pale stem. In the middle of the motif are two larger mushrooms that give the embroidery fullness and balance. At the bottom, a smaller mushroom grows among leaves and grass. The varying heights create movement within the motif.

The colours are an important part of the expression. The red mushroom caps stand out clearly against the linen. The white spots give the fly agarics their recognisable character. The pale stems are stitched in soft shades that create shape and shadow. At the bottom, the green leaves bring the motif together and create a natural base.

Form, details and use

The motif contains many small details, even though the overall expression remains clear and simple. The thin blades of grass rise between the mushrooms and create lightness. The leaves at the bottom are stitched in several green shades. Some are dark and striking, while others are lighter and more subdued. This gives the embroidery depth without making the motif feel heavy.

The finished wall piece measures 20 x 30 cm. The size makes it suitable for display in a smaller frame. It can hang on its own as a small woodland motif, or together with other botanical or nature-inspired embroideries. The design is especially suited to homes where nature, needlework and classic textiles are appreciated.

Red Fly Agaric is a good project for embroiderers who enjoy clear motifs and delicate colour transitions. The mushrooms are easy to recognise, yet there are still many subtle shifts in colour. This makes the stitching varied and interesting. The motif is especially suitable for the lightly experienced embroiderer.

Haandarbejdets Fremme and materials

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme (HF) linen fabric 10B. This combination creates a classic embroidery with beautiful texture. The linen forms a calm and natural background, while Danish Flower Thread gives the red, green and pale shades a lively expression.

Haandarbejdets Fremme is known for embroidery designs of high quality and a clear design language. Many of their motifs are inspired by nature and strong Danish needlework traditions. In this wall piece, that tradition is visible in the simple composition and precise details. Gerda Bengtsson has created a motif where the mushrooms appear both decorative and naturalistic in their expression.

The finished result is a charming wall piece featuring red fly agarics and a green forest floor. It has a warm seasonal atmosphere, yet can be enjoyed all year round. The motif suits both classic and modern interiors.
