Rødder – wall piece – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)
This wall piece presents a row of root vegetables embroidered as small botanical motifs. Each plant stands on its own and is depicted with leaves, root and fine details.
The motif consists of five different roots arranged in a calm horizontal row across the fabric. The simple composition gives the design a light and graphic expression.
Several of the plants are carrots with long, slender roots and delicate green tops. The narrow leaves spread out in small branching forms, and the different shades of green give the foliage life and movement.
Between the carrots appear small beetroots with rounded red roots. Their darker leaves create contrast with the lighter vegetables, adding variation and balance to the motif.
Each root is rendered with fine details. Some roots are long and pointed, while others are short and rounded. These differences emphasise the natural forms of the plants.
The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The clearly defined stitches give the motif texture and highlight both leaves and roots. The result is a decorative wall piece with a simple and charming nature motif.
