Sengenisser - Advent calendar - Ingrid Plum (IP)
"Sengenisser" (Bedtime Pixies) - Advent calendar - Ingrid Plum (IP) is an embroidery kit with a cosy and humorous Christmas motif. The calendar is arranged as a grid with 12 small Pixies, each peeking out from their own bed.
The red Pixie hats are repeated throughout the motif, while the beds and duvets vary between pink, green and blue-grey shades. Each section has its own pattern, giving the Advent calendar plenty of variation despite its structured layout.
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The finished Advent calendar measures 30 x 43 cm.
12 Pixies tucked up beneath their duvets
The motif consists of 12 small scenes arranged in three rows with four sections in each. In every section, a Pixie lies in bed and peeks out over the duvet.
The Pixies’ faces are simple and clear, with dark eyes and small red mouths. Their characteristic red hats vary in shape and give the figures a playful expression.
Although the structure is repeated from one section to the next, the Pixies do not all look the same. Small variations in faces, hats and positioning give each figure its own character.
This gives the motif a fine narrative quality. It almost feels as though you are looking into a little Pixie dormitory, where everyone has been tucked in for the night.
Duvets with stripes, checks and delicate patterns
The duvets fill a large part of each section and are an important part of the design. They vary between several different patterns and colours.
Some duvets are embroidered with horizontal stripes. Others feature small vertical details or dense square patterns. The variations give the calendar a distinct textile character.
The colours are muted and harmonious. Dusty pink, olive green and blue-grey are repeated throughout and are brought together by the light linen background.
The frames around the beds also vary in colour. This emphasises the grid structure and makes each individual little scene easy to distinguish.
Small pockets for Christmas treats and surprises
Each duvet is assembled as a small pocket, allowing the Advent calendar to be used for little surprises throughout December. The pockets can hold Christmas treats, a small present or a cosy note. This makes Bedtime Pixies more than a decorative embroidery – the calendar also becomes a charming part of the countdown to Christmas.
A Christmas motif with humour and calm
Bedtime Pixies stands apart from many traditional Christmas motifs. There are no large fir trees, presents or Christmas landscapes. Instead, the focus is on the small Pixies lying comfortably beneath their individual duvets.
This gives the calendar a cosy and almost homely expression. The red hats provide the Christmas atmosphere, while the beds and soft colours add a sense of calm.
The motif is well suited to both children and adults who enjoy Pixies with personality. It has humour without feeling exaggerated and can therefore be brought out year after year.
Danish Flower Thread on linen 10B
The Advent calendar is embroidered with Danish Flower Thread. The matte surface of the thread suits the dusty pink, green and blue-grey shades well.
The fabric is Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The fine linen structure highlights the many small details in the faces, hats and duvet patterns.
The finished embroidery measures 30 x 43 cm. The format provides space for all 12 sections without making the calendar too large.
The embroidery includes plenty of repetition, but the patterns change along the way. This creates a good balance between rhythm and variation as one Pixie after another takes shape.
