Stilkeg – wall piece – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

"Stilkeg" (Pedunculate Oak) is a small wall hanging designed by Gerda Bengtsson, in which an oak tree is interpreted through a simple and well-balanced visual language. The motif shows a pedunculate oak with a clearly defined trunk and a light, rounded crown. The expression is calm and naturalistic.

The foliage is rendered in several shades of green, creating life and depth in the crown. Darker tones in the trunk provide contrast and visually anchor the motif. The composition is simple and carefully balanced, as is characteristic of Gerda Bengtsson’s botanical work.

As a deciduous tree, the pedunculate oak is clearly distinct from conifers. This is evident in the leaf shapes and the structure of the crown. The motif appears recognizable and botanically correct, yet without unnecessary detail. The result is a timeless and slightly graphic expression.

The embroidery is worked in classic cross stitch using Danish Flower Thread on linen from Haandarbejdets Fremme. The materials support the natural character of the motif and give the stitches a beautiful structure. The finished piece is durable and well suited for framing.

The small format makes Pedunculate Oak – Wall Hanging – Gerda Bengtsson (GB) ideal as a discreet wall piece. It can hang on its own or form part of a series with other nature motifs. The project is manageable in size and suitable both for experienced stitchers and for those seeking a smaller piece with a classic expression.
