Sunflower Kansas – wall piece – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)
This wall piece features a beautiful embroidery of a sunflower, where the flower stands at the centre with its warm and radiant presence. The motif is composed in a clear and simple way, allowing the characteristic blossom to become the natural focal point.
The large sunflower spreads its yellow petals around a dark centre. The petals are embroidered in bright golden tones and arranged in slightly overlapping layers, giving the flower both depth and vitality. The dark brown centre forms a dense circular core that creates a strong contrast to the light petals, making the flower stand out clearly.
From the blossom a strong stem grows downward through the motif. Along the stem several green leaves appear in different sizes. The leaves have gently curved edges and give the composition a sense of movement, as if the plant is turning toward the light.
The colours of the embroidery are clear and natural. The warm yellow tones of the flower combine beautifully with the green leaves and the dark centre, creating a harmonious and lively expression.
The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The fine stitches emphasise both the shape of the petals and the leaves along the stem, allowing the sunflower to appear crisp and vibrant. As a wall piece, the design becomes a decorative element where the sunflower’s warm colours can brighten the room.
