Svampetur - doily / napkin - Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

A colourful walk through the autumn forest

"Svampetur" (Mushroom Trip) - doily / napkin - Gerda Bengtsson (GB) is a small cross stitch embroidery with a lively woodland motif. The design shows a group of people on a mushroom trip in front of a dense background of trees. At the top are autumn trees in brown and orange shades. In the centre stand green trees that add depth and contrast to the motif. At the bottom, children and adults walk past carrying baskets, bags and small finds from the forest floor.

The embroidery has a clear family atmosphere. The people are shown in different sizes and ages, creating a lovely sense of togetherness. Some carry baskets, while others appear to gather or show small mushrooms. On the ground are red and purple mushrooms that connect the motif with its title. The scene feels like a small moment from an autumn day where everyone can take part.

People, baskets and mushrooms

The motif is filled with small details. On the left stands an adult in a green dress carrying a yellow basket. Beside them walks a child stitched in red and purple shades. In the centre is a darkly dressed figure with a basket, and at their feet are small red mushrooms. On the right, another person walks with a basket while an older figure completes the group. The small figures give the doily / napkin life and movement.

The colours are warm and bright. The orange and brown trees create a distinct autumn atmosphere. The green trees and grass bring calmness to the scene. The blue, purple, red and green clothing makes the people easy to distinguish. At the same time, the many colours give the embroidery a cheerful character without making the motif feel busy.

The size of 14 x 14 cm makes the project manageable. The doily / napkin can be used on the table beneath a small vase, bowl or candlestick. It can also be displayed as a small textile detail in an autumn arrangement. The motif is especially suited to embroiderers who enjoy nature, the seasons and small narrative scenes.

Haandarbejdets Fremme and materials

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme (HF) linen fabric 12B. The fine linen suits the small format and the many figures beautifully. Danish Flower Thread gives the colours a lively expression that complements the forest, clothing and mushrooms.

Haandarbejdets Fremme is known for embroidery designs of high quality and clear motifs. In this design, that tradition appears in a small and practical form. Gerda Bengtsson has created a scene where only a few stitches form people, nature and atmosphere. This makes the motif charming and easy to return to.

Mushroom Trip is especially suitable for the lightly experienced embroiderer. The motif is small, yet it contains many colour changes and details. The figures require attention, and the trees include several shades. In return, the stitching creates an embroidery with strong storytelling character. The finished result is a doily / napkin filled with autumn atmosphere, mushrooms and lively woodland charm.
