Tommelise – wall piece – Agnete Velter (AV)

"Tommelise" (Thumbelina) – wall piece – Agnete Velter (AV) is a fairytale-inspired embroidery based on Thumbelina from the stories of Hans Christian Andersen. The small figure floats above water filled with large water lily leaves, while a butterfly pulls her along by a thin string.

The composition is built around the large, rounded water lily leaves that form the background of the scene. The green leaves fill much of the surface and provide a calm visual foundation, while Thumbelina and the butterfly introduce movement to the composition.

The colours move through green, blue and light tones. Thumbelina’s light hair and pink dress stand in contrast to the darker shades of the leaves and water, creating a clear focal point within the motif.

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread, which produces clear colours and a defined stitch pattern. The yarn highlights the graphic shapes of the leaves and the small details of the figure.

The design was developed for Haandarbejdets Fremme and is embroidered on Linen 10B from Haandarbejdets Fremme. The structure of the fabric gives the embroidery a distinctive texture where the shapes and colours of the motif stand out clearly.
