Vedbend - doily / napkin - Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

"Vedbend" (Ivy) - doily / napkin - Gerda Bengtsson (GB) is an elegant embroidery design in cross stitch featuring a circular wreath of ivy stitched on light linen fabric. The motif consists of closely arranged ivy leaves in different green shades winding naturally around the centre, creating a harmonious and calm expression.

The characteristic leaves are rendered with great precision and variation. Some leaves appear dark and deep in colour, while others are lighter and more delicate in tone. This gives the motif life and depth without appearing heavy. The small tendrils and fine branches add a light and organic quality to the embroidery.

Ivy is known as a plant that remains green throughout the year and is therefore often associated with loyalty, strength and the enduring life of nature. In this embroidery design, the decorative forms of the plant are translated into a classic botanical motif with a simple and timeless expression.

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen fabric 12B. The fine linen gives the cross stitches an elegant and detailed appearance, while the matte cotton thread beautifully highlights the many green colour variations.

The circular wreath makes the motif especially well suited as a doily / napkin. The embroidery works beautifully both on its own and together with other botanical designs from the series. It pairs particularly well with table settings featuring natural materials, ceramics and classic Nordic styling.

Gerda Bengtsson was known for her botanical motifs, where plants and flowers were portrayed with great respect for the forms of nature. Her embroidery designs have a calm and harmonious expression that continues to make them popular among embroiderers today.
