Blå flora – wall piece – Ole Kortzau (OK)

This wall piece presents a lush and colourful embroidery titled Blue flora, designed by Ole Kortzau. The motif consists of a densely composed arrangement of leaves and flowers, where shapes flow into one another to create a lively and almost painterly composition.

At the centre of the motif a rich variety of leaf forms spreads outward in different directions. Some leaves appear broad and rounded, while others are long and pointed. They overlap and interact, creating a dynamic structure in which colours and shapes constantly meet and contrast. The layered composition gives the design a sense of depth and movement.

The colour palette is dominated by shades of blue and turquoise, combined with green tones and occasional warmer accents. In several places the cool colours are broken by lighter highlights and touches of golden hues that add energy and contrast to the composition. Together these colours create a vibrant embroidery where leaves and blossoms almost merge into a unified decorative form.

Rather than depicting a specific plant, the motif offers a free interpretation of nature’s shapes. Flowers and leaves are simplified into clear and expressive forms that together create a strong decorative composition. The result is a modern embroidery where organic natural forms meet a graphic and artistic expression.

The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The dense stitches give the motif structure and emphasise the different colour areas, allowing the composition to stand out clearly. As a wall piece, the embroidery becomes a striking decorative element where the colours interact beautifully with the surrounding interior.
