Fantasi – green cushion – Ida Winckler (IW)

An embroidery design does not need flowers to feel alive. In Fantasi - green cushion - Ida Winckler (IW), it is pattern, rhythm and repetition that create the expression. The cushion is built from small geometric sections, where each square has its own visual language and its own structure.

The embroidery is worked in cross stitch and appears as a beautiful combination of different patterns, inspired by classic sampler pieces and traditional stitched surfaces. The green shades create calm and balance, while the variation in the sections adds life and depth. The result is graphic, decorative and timeless.

Each section works almost like a small individual motif. Stripes, checks, squares and rhythmic repetitions come together in a harmonious whole, where the eye continuously discovers new details. This makes the cushion interesting both from a distance and up close.

The green colour palette creates a natural and calm expression that fits beautifully into both modern and classic interiors. As a cushion, the motif becomes both functional and decorative, and it works well on its own or together with other textiles in the home.

The embroidery is stitched on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen fabric 7B using Danish Flower Thread, which creates clear stitches and a classic result. The texture of the linen supports the graphic forms and highlights the different pattern sections in an elegant way.

Fantasi - green cushion - Ida Winckler (IW) is a project that appeals to embroiderers who appreciate structure, repetition and precision. It is an embroidery design with calm, balance and strong decorative value, where simplicity becomes something special.

About Haandarbejdets Fremme

Haandarbejdets Fremme is especially known for botanical motifs, but over the years many designers have also worked with more graphic and experimental expressions. Ida Winckler created several designs where pattern and composition were allowed to take centre stage.

An interesting detail is that cushions based on patterns like this were often used as sampler pieces, where different stitches and constructions could be tested within one complete design. This makes them both decorative and educational – almost like a small embroidery book stitched directly into the cushion.
