Pige og Fiskefangst - wall piece - Vibeke Olris (VO)

The Year In Cross Stitch 1991

"Pige og Fiskefangst" (Girl and Fishing Catch) - wall piece - Vibeke Olris (VO) is a poetic cross-stitch embroidery that captures a quiet moment by the shore. The motif shows a little girl with fair hair and purple clothing standing in shallow water with a fishing net raised in her hand. Around her, the sea stretches out in calm blue shades, light clouds and reflections in the water.

The embroidery has a simple and narrative expression. The small figure of the girl is placed at the centre of the motif and creates a feeling of wonder and curiosity. It is easy to imagine her searching for small creatures at the water’s edge or having just spotted something exciting in the net. The motif carries the special atmosphere of long summer days by the sea, where time feels slow and still.

The colours are kept in soft and muted tones. The blue shades in the sky and water give the embroidery calmness and depth, while the green and grey areas in the foreground create structure and movement. The girl’s purple clothing adds a delicate touch of colour that draws the eye to the centre of the landscape.

The embroidery is worked with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The matte surface of the thread gives a lively play of colour, while the linen supports the characteristic structure of the cross stitches. Together, the materials create a classic embroidery with a light and Nordic expression.

The wall piece is well suited to homes where nature, coastal landscapes and atmospheric motifs are allowed to take centre stage. The small format makes the embroidery suitable both on its own and as part of a larger collection of wall pieces inspired by seasons, childhood and nature.

Vibeke Olris is known for her narrative embroideries and her special ability to capture moods from everyday life and nature. Her motifs often contain small moments that evoke memories and leave room for personal stories.
