Forventning - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW)
"Forventning" (Anticipation) - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW) is an embroidery kit with a Christmas motif that captures the quiet atmosphere before Christmas. At the centre of the motif stands a dark green Christmas tree filled with candles, hearts and small golden decorations. Colourful presents are waiting beneath the tree.
Behind the Christmas tree is a large light circle, while the blue background is filled with small light dots like falling snow. The combination creates a calm winter atmosphere and suits the name Anticipation beautifully.
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 12B. The finished wall hanging measures 16 × 21 cm.
The Christmas tree as the focal point of the motif
The large Christmas tree fills almost the entire picture area. Its dark green branches form a clear triangular shape that stands out against the light circle in the background.
Several lit candles sit among the branches. They have light flames surrounded by small golden details that create a sense of glow and warmth. The candles are evenly distributed across the tree, creating a fine rhythm from top to bottom.
Red hearts hang between the candles. Their warm red colour stands out clearly against the green tree and gives the motif a classic Christmas character.
Small golden ornaments are also scattered among the branches. They vary in shape and bring the decorations to life without making the motif feel crowded.
Presents beneath the tree and snow outside
At the bottom is a row of Christmas presents gathered closely beneath the tree. The presents are embroidered in red, yellow, blue and light shades and feature different patterns.
The gifts give the motif a clear sense of anticipation. They are waiting beneath the tree and add colour to the lower part of the embroidery.
Behind the tree, the background is divided between a large light circle and a broad blue field. The small light dots in the blue can be interpreted as snowflakes, giving the motif a clear winter atmosphere.
The blue area also acts as a calm frame around the Christmas tree. It highlights the warm Christmas colours and gives the embroidery a clear contrast between the cold of winter and the warmth of Christmas lights.
A small Christmas picture for December
The finished wall hanging measures 16 × 21 cm. The format makes it easy to find a place for the embroidery in the Christmas home.
Anticipation can hang on a smaller wall, beside a door, in a hallway or as part of a collection of other Christmas embroideries. It can also be displayed as a small textile Christmas picture on a shelf or chest of drawers.
The motif has a clear Christmas character, while the overall expression remains calm. This makes the wall hanging easy to combine with both classic Christmas decorations and simpler arrangements in wood, brass and natural materials.
Danish Flower Thread and linen 12B
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread. The thread gives the green, red, golden and blue shades a soft and textile expression.
The fabric is Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 12B. The fine linen structure suits the many small details in the motif, including candles, hearts, ornaments, snowflakes and presents.
The light linen background also plays an active part in the design. It functions both as a background and as part of the large light circle behind the Christmas tree.
Ida Winckler’s Christmas motif Anticipation
Ida Winckler has created a motif where the decorated Christmas tree and the small presents tell the story of the time just before Christmas. The focus is not Christmas Eve itself, but the feeling of waiting for it.
This gives Anticipation - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW) its distinctive atmosphere. The candles are lit, the presents are ready, and the snow is falling outside. Everything is prepared.
Haandarbejdets Fremme is known for embroidery kits with fine materials and motifs with a strong connection to Danish needlework tradition. Anticipation is a Christmas embroidery that can be brought out year after year.
