The Year In Cross Stitch 2009
Haandarbejdets Fremme (HF) – Calendar 2009 presents The Year In Cross Stitch 2009, designed by Conni Schimmell. The calendar contains 12 embroidery motifs inspired by the forms and colours of nature.
The motifs are based on berries and plants from the Danish landscape, particularly inspired by the nature of Odsherred. The area’s rich plant and wildlife form the foundation for the individual designs.
The expression is naturalistic with a focus on detail. The berries are depicted up close, as they appear on branches and twigs, giving the motifs a calm and recognisable character.
Each motif was originally created as a watercolour and later translated into cross stitch. This transition from brush to thread creates a subtle interplay between colour and texture.
The motifs can be embroidered individually or incorporated into larger projects. The calendar invites further exploration of natural forms in embroidery.
The embroidery is worked in cross stitch, ensuring a consistent result and making it easier to render fine details.
The publication also includes inspirational photographs of finished pieces, demonstrating how the motifs can be used in different contexts.
