Julekrybbe - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW)

"Julekrybbe" (Nativity Scene) - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW) is an embroidery kit with a colourful interpretation of the classic Christmas Nativity motif. At the centre is the small stable with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. Above them shines a large golden Christmas star.
Around the Nativity scene, the motif unfolds with angels, animals, trees, flowers and several small figures. This gives the wall hanging the character of a complete little Christmas story, where the eye can move from one detail to the next.
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 12B. The finished wall hanging measures 24 x 20 cm.

Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus at the centre

At the centre of the motif is the Nativity scene. Mary kneels beside the child in a deep blue robe with a red head covering. On the other side stands Joseph in warm red and burgundy shades.
Baby Jesus lies in the manger between them. Behind the child are small animals in grey and reddish shades. The simple figures make the scene clear without taking up too much space.
The stable itself is worked in light and brown tones. The simple building forms a calm frame around the central scene and allows the stronger colours of the figures’ clothing to stand out.

Christmas star and angels above the Nativity scene

High above the stable is a large golden star. Its long rays spread across the upper part of the motif, making the star a natural focal point.
On either side, small angels in blue shades fly above the scene. They have warm golden and red details and bring life to the sky above the Nativity.
Smaller golden stars are scattered throughout the motif. They continue the celestial theme and connect the large star with the rest of the composition.

Trees, animals and small figures around the stable

The story continues on both sides of the Nativity scene. On the left are tall green trees and small animals. A figure in violet stands among them and creates a distinct point of colour.
On the right are, among other details, a palm-like plant and another figure in warm yellow shades. The different figures and plants give the scene an open, landscape-like character.
Small flowers and green cross stitches are scattered along the ground. This gives the lower part of the embroidery a sense of lightness and adds colour between the larger figures.

A blue and golden border brings the motif together

The entire Christmas motif is framed by a decorative border. It consists of repeated blue and golden cross-stitch shapes running along all four sides.
The border creates a clear frame around the story. At the same time, it repeats colours from the sky, the star and the figures’ clothing.
This gives the wall hanging a finished and harmonious expression. The light linen background also ensures that the motif retains space around the many details.

A Christmas embroidery to bring out year after year

The finished wall hanging measures 24 x 20 cm. The format is large enough to hold many details, while remaining compact enough for smaller wall spaces.
"Julekrybbe" (Nativity Scene) - wall hanging works well as a permanent part of the Christmas decorations. It can hang on its own or together with other embroidered Christmas motifs.
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread, giving the blue, red, green, violet and golden shades a soft textile expression. Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 12B provides a fine base for the many small cross-stitch details.
Ida Winckler has created a Christmas motif with both narrative and colour. Nativity Scene - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW) is an embroidery kit for those who love classic Christmas motifs, biblical stories and embroidery that can become part of Christmas for many years to come.
