Lungeurt (K) – placemat – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

This placemat is decorated with a delicate embroidery of lungwort, presented as a botanical motif where the entire plant is shown from root to flower. The motif is positioned along the left side of the placemat, creating a harmonious balance between the detailed embroidery and the calm surface of the remaining linen.

At the base of the motif the plant’s root spreads into several fine branches in warm earthy tones. Above the root grows a dense cluster of leaves that forms the base of the plant. The leaves are elongated and slightly pointed, embroidered in varying shades of green that add life and depth to the motif.

From this group of leaves several slender stems rise upward through the design. Along the stems small leaves appear at intervals, following the direction of the stems and giving the plant a natural and light structure. The stems lift the flowering branches upward, where the plant’s characteristic blossoms unfold.

At the top of the stems the flowers appear in small clusters. Some are embroidered in clear blue tones, while others appear in warm pink shades. This colour variation is typical of lungwort and gives the motif a lively and almost poetic character. The small bell-shaped flowers hang gently from the stems, creating a soft rhythm within the design.

The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The fine stitches highlight the slender stems, the green leaves and the colourful blossoms. A green border frames the placemat and completes the design with a calm and classic finish.

The result is an elegant embroidery with a botanical motif, where the distinctive flowers of lungwort bring a natural and refined character to the table setting.
