Pige og ged - wall piece - Vibeke Olris (VO)

The Year In Cross Stitch 1991

"Pige og ged" (Girl and Goat) - wall piece - Vibeke Olris (VO) is an atmospheric cross stitch embroidery inspired by nature and quiet summer days by the coast. The motif depicts a young girl standing in a green seaside landscape, holding out a tuft of grass towards a curious goat. Around them grow flowering bushes while pale clouds drift across the sky.

The embroidery has a calm and storytelling expression. The blue tones of the sea create a bright and open background, while the green hillsides and small pink flowers add warmth and life to the motif. The landscape evokes thoughts of coastal paths, summer grass and quiet mornings close to nature.

The girl brings warmth and personality to the design. She stands to the left of the goat with a small tuft of grass in her hand, trying to feed the animal. Her blue wellington boots add an everyday charm to the motif and bring to mind mornings when dew still rests upon the grass. The meeting between the child and the goat gives the embroidery a gentle narrative and a feeling of curiosity and calm.

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen fabric 10B. The matte finish of the thread creates soft colour transitions, while the linen fabric highlights the structure and delicate details of the cross stitches.

The design works beautifully as a wall piece in homes inspired by nature, animals and Nordic landscapes. The smaller format makes it easy to display either on its own or together with other embroidery designs featuring summer and nature motifs.

Vibeke Olris is known for her atmospheric designs focused on landscapes, light and small everyday stories. Her embroidery designs combine simplicity with warmth and a sense of intimacy.
