Pige på trappe – wall piece – Vibeke Olris (VO)

The Year In Cross Stitch 1991

This wall piece presents an atmospheric scene set in a winter landscape. The motif depicts a girl sitting on a winding staircase in the snow.

The staircase curves upward through the landscape and leads toward the top of a hill. At the hilltop stands a group of dark trees, their dense branches forming a strong silhouette against the light background.

The snow lies across the hill in soft waves. The light stitches create a calm surface and give the landscape depth. The scene appears quiet and almost dreamlike.

Halfway up the staircase the girl sits resting. She is embroidered in clear colours that stand in contrast to the darker trees. The figure brings life to the motif and introduces a narrative element to the scene.

The simple forms create a poetic composition. The long staircase connects the foreground and background and guides the eye upward toward the trees.

The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The fine stitches provide structure and precision to the design. The result is an atmospheric embroidery with a calm and storytelling expression.
