Blackcurrant – jam jar cover – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)

This jam jar cover is decorated with a delicate embroidery of a branch with blackcurrants. The motif is simple and decorative and pairs beautifully with jars of homemade jam or cordial.

At the centre of the embroidery appears a branch carrying several small clusters of dark blackcurrants. The berries hang closely together in small groups and are embroidered in deep dark tones that give them a natural fullness. Their small round shapes stand out clearly against the light linen and create a gentle contrast to the surrounding leaves.

Along the branch several green leaves appear in different sizes. The leaves have soft, rounded shapes and are embroidered in multiple shades of green, giving the motif life and variation. The combination of the dark berries and the fresh green leaves creates a natural and summery expression.

The motif is placed centrally on the jam jar cover so that it becomes visible on the top of the jar. When the cover is tied around the jar, the linen forms a softly gathered edge that gives a cosy and classic appearance.

The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The fine stitches highlight the round shapes of the berries and the leaves along the branch, giving the motif a clear and defined structure. As a jam jar cover, the embroidery becomes a decorative detail that makes homemade jars even more inviting.
