Stor vortebirk – wall piece – Gerda Bengtsson (GB)
This wall piece presents a large silver birch embroidered in full height. The motif shows the tree from its roots at the ground to the wide crown above, creating an impressive embroidery with a calm and natural expression.
The long, slender trunk rises vertically from the ground. The pale bark is embroidered with fine dark markings that highlight the characteristic pattern of the birch. The trunk gives the composition a clear vertical structure.
From the trunk the branches spread outward in many directions. The thin branches form a delicate network of lines throughout the crown. Several bend slightly downward, giving the tree a soft and natural appearance.
Along the branches countless small leaves appear. They are embroidered in different shades of green, ranging from light spring greens to deeper tones. These variations give the crown life and depth.
At the top the leaves gather into a wide, almost triangular crown. The fine branches still allow light to pass between the leaves, giving the tree a light and airy character.
At the base of the trunk a small cluster of grass and plants appears. These subtle details anchor the motif to the ground and provide a natural conclusion to the tree’s form.
The embroidery is worked in cross stitch with Danish Flower Thread on linen. The many fine stitches allow the bark texture, branches and small leaves to be rendered with precision. The finished embroidery becomes a striking wall piece with a classic nature motif.
