K1:2 cushion is a graphic embroidery design created by Renée Rudebrant. The motif is made in cross stitch and appears in a strict black and white expression, where repetition, rhythm and structure are central elements. The design continues Renée Rudebrant’s work with textile graphics and a consistent, modern design language.

Materials that highlight the graphic expression

The cushion measures approx. 40 × 40 cm and is embroidered on natural white linen (10.5 threads/cm) with Appleton’s wool. The interaction between the firm structure of the linen and the fullness of the wool gives the embroidery depth and clarity and supports the structure and tactile quality of the graphic pattern. The backing is black cotton. These are carefully selected quality materials that contribute to a durable and clear expression.

Inspiration from crafts and everyday life

The inspiration for the K1:2 cushion stems from a visit to Zanzibar, where Renée Rudebrant came across a women's cooperative. Here, the women had taken the traditional craft of weaving mats and rdesigned it in the form of modern bags. For Renée, the meeting was a powerful example of how one everyday product can be transformed into another, while preserving and further developing old craft traditions.

The woven mats from Zanzibar directly inspired the K1:2 cushion. The structure and rhythm of the pattern can be seen as a graphic interpretation of the repetitions and structures of the braid, translated into cross-stitch and textile graphics.
