A surface-covering pattern with drama
K1:9 cushion is a graphic embroidery design created by Renée Rudebrant. The rectangular cushion is decorated with an surface-covering pattern in black and red, where repetitions and variations create a lively and exciting play. The expression is distinctive and rhythmic and clearly rooted in Renée Rudebrant’s work with textile graphics.
Format and materials that carry the pattern
The cushion measures approx. 40 × 60 cm and is embroidered on natural white linen (10.5 threads/cm) with Appleton’s wool. The elongated format allows for the movement and repetition of the pattern, while the interaction between the structure of the linen and the fullness of the wool gives the embroidery a clear and tactile expression. The back is made of black cotton, which supports the contrast in the embroidery and brings together the overall impression.
Inspiration from the sea and movement
Regarding the design process, Renée Rudebrant says that for her it is a liberating experience to walk along a beach that feels endless and listen to the waves of the sea. There can be a bit of drama. This very atmosphere became the starting point for the K1:9 cushion.
In the pattern, she has worked with wave shapes, where the red symbolizes the wave crests and adds energy and intensity to the black and white basic expression. The result is a design that balances calm and movement.
A graphic design with the power of nature
The K1:9 cushion is aimed at embroiderers and retailers who are looking for a graphic and surface-covering design with strong visual dynamics, made of quality materials and with a clear narrative inspired by the rhythms of nature.
