Kagefigurer - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW)
"Kagefigurer" (Cookie Figures) - wall hanging - Ida Winckler (IW) is a small embroidery kit with a simple and nostalgic Christmas motif. Two decorative cookie figures stand side by side beneath a green fir garland with small ornaments hanging from it. At the top, the motif is finished with a golden star.
The compact motif is built up using only a few colours and clear shapes. The warm reddish-brown figures create a focal point, while the green branch and golden details add classic Christmas colours. The light linen background leaves plenty of space around the motif and highlights the individual stitches.
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread on Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The finished wall hanging measures 12 x 9 cm.
Two cookie figures, each with its own shape
The two cookie figures stand close together at the bottom of the motif. They are embroidered in warm red and brownish shades and each has a distinct silhouette.
The figure on the left has a more dynamic shape with a wider lower section, while the figure on the right stands more upright. The small differences give them character and make the motif more lively.
Both figures have light details around the head and upper body. Just a few stitches are enough to create faces and small decorative elements without making the motif feel heavy.
The figures may bring to mind traditional Christmas cookies shaped like people. This gives the wall hanging a cosy connection to Christmas baking, decorations and old Christmas traditions.
Fir garland and Christmas decorations above the figures
A horizontal green fir garland runs above the cookie figures. The short branches point outwards to both sides and form a natural finish above the figures.
Small red and golden ornaments hang from the garland. They act as simple Christmas decoration details and add rhythm to the motif.
A small golden star appears in the centre above the fir garland. It forms the highest point of the motif and creates balance between the two figures below.
The limited colour palette brings all parts of the motif together. Reddish-brown adds warmth, green brings a natural Christmas element, and the golden shade adds a small touch of light.
A small Christmas embroidery with nostalgic character
The finished wall hanging measures 12 x 9 cm. This makes it ideal for a small wall, a gallery wall or a collection of other small Christmas embroideries.
"Kagefigurer" (Cookie Figures) can also be used as a subtle Christmas decoration in the kitchen or dining area, where the motif’s connection to Christmas baking is particularly fitting.
The small format makes the project manageable. At the same time, the motif contains several different elements, providing plenty of variation while stitching.
Danish Flower Thread on linen 10B
The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread. The matte surface of the thread suits the motif’s warm, classic colours and gives the cross stitches a soft expression.
The fabric is Haandarbejdets Fremme linen 10B. The light linen background creates a calm setting where the red, green and golden shades stand out clearly.
With Cookie Figures, Ida Winckler has created a small Christmas motif where just a few elements tell a recognisable story of Christmas, decorations and tradition. Haandarbejdets Fremme’s classic materials make the wall hanging an embroidery that can be brought out again year after year.
