Tivoli – wall piece – Ida Winckler (IW) is a colourful and narrative embroidery inspired by the atmosphere of Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. The motif gathers several small scenes from the gardens and forms a lively and festive overall composition.

At the top of the motif, a train carrying visitors moves through the gardens. Around the image appear small scenes with people strolling or sitting at café tables enjoying the atmosphere.

At the centre of the composition stand three of Tivoli’s well-known characters: Tivoli Pjerrot, Columbine and Harlequin. The three figures form a central focal point and bring movement and recognisable Tivoli character to the design.

At the bottom of the embroidery appears the characteristic entrance to Tivoli Gardens, with flags and visitors arriving at the gardens. Numerous small details give the motif a narrative and lively quality.

The motif is surrounded by a decorative border in bright colours that reinforces the festive atmosphere and unifies the composition.

The embroidery is stitched with Danish Flower Thread, which provides clear colours and a distinct stitch definition. The yarn highlights the many small details and figures in the motif.

The design was developed for Haandarbejdets Fremme and is embroidered on Linen 7B from Haandarbejdets Fremme. The coarser fabric structure gives the embroidery character and suits the many details of the motif.
